Announcing Sensory Percussion for Cymbals

Since its inception, Sensory Percussion has pushed the limits of the sonic control available to drummers via percussive gestures across drum heads, rims, and shells. Now, we’re expanding the system beyond drums to complete the picture of the full kit: enter the EVANS Hybrid Cymbal and Hi-Hat Sensors.

In the world of triggers and e-kits, cymbals have always been the toughest nut to crack. If you’ve ever played electronic cymbals, you probably know what we’re talking about. They’re often made of material that responds nothing like a real cymbal, or if they use metal low-volume cymbals, the software isn’t able to detect nuanced gestures, leaving the user with an underwhelming experience. Well, that’s no longer the case. Just like how our drum sensors represented a paradigm shift in electronic drumming, our brand-new cymbal sensors bring a never-before-seen level of realism and nuance to electronic cymbals. We’ve expanded on our patented Sensory Percussion timbre detection technology to learn not just where you play the cymbal, but how you play the cymbal. This unique method allows us to split the cymbal into more zones than any other e-cymbal system in existence, as well as the ability to detect things like minute changes in hi-hat pedal pressure.

And of course, just like with our drum sensors, you can control any number of sonic parameters as you move between zones, turning a single sample into infinite variations of sound. The cymbal sensors are compatible with EVANS dBOne low-volume cymbals, and the final piece of the puzzle is our cymbal sound library, which contains at launch over 14,000 samples of 58 different cymbals and hi-hats, from classic big names to small, independent cymbalsmiths. No rubber pads, no dropped hits, no compromise.

We’ve been working on this for a long time and are excited to finally share it with the Sensory Percussion community. Check out the link below for more information.
