Sensory Percussion 2.7 – Upgrade Now

The text Sensory Percussion 2.7 over a gradient background

Sensory Percussion 2.7 is built around two big workflow changes: presets for everything, and a new workspace-and-session model for how your work is saved. It also brings sidechain routing to the compressor, a brand-new Gate and Bit Crush, live-value tracking on every parameter, new sequencer modes, and a much deeper MIDI notes generator. Read on for the full details.

To upgrade, open the software and look for the pop-up window. Otherwise, you can grab the latest version on the downloads page.

Presets for everything

Every module, generator, controller, and effect now has presets. Dial in a reverb once, save it, and pull it back up on any other reverb. And every effect ships with factory presets to start from.

Presets are also saved as ordinary .spp files, so you can back them up, share them with a friend, or drag one in from the Finder.

Workspace and Sessions

Saving has been rethought. Your work now lives in one of two places, chosen from a selector at the top of the window:

  • The workspace is a new always-saved scratchpad. No need to worry about saving, whatever you do is kept and comes back exactly as you left it. This is where you experiment.
  • A session is a named .sp2 file you deliberately created, with a title, and save, revert, and close commands.

This new workflow is designed to let you experiment freely without worrying about losing your work, while still giving you the ability to save and organize your ideas when they become real.

Sidechain, a Gate, and a Bit Crush

The Compressor got a significant overhaul. It now has full sidechain routing with source and tap selectors, so you can duck a pad every time the kick lands, or sidechain to a vocal mic on the Global Set.

There's also a new Gate effect, with the same sidechain panel and detector metering — great for cleaning up bleed between hits, or for keying one sound open with another. And a new Bit Crush for lo-fi degradation, with rate and bit depth reduction plus jitter and shape controls for everything from vintage-sampler grit to fully broken digital artifacts.

Better eKit MIDI out support

The MIDI notes generator is now not just notes! We added support for sending CCs for snare center-to-edge hit position and Hi-hat pedal information. Cymbals also get choke handling (aftertouch, CC, a dedicated note, or off). These changes make it possible to use Sensory Percussion as a full eKit controller for samplers like Superior Drummer 3, with all the expressive information you get from the sensors.

New sequencer modes

Two new random flavors join the sequencer. Random hop picks a step at random but never lands on the same one twice in a row, and shuffle plays every step once in a random order before any step repeats. All the multi-sampled acoustic drum sequencers across the Core Library and sound packs have been set to random hop, which makes them noticeably more natural to play.

New sounds

This release adds factory FX presets and metronome presets, a new Chord Sequence kit called Yakshini, three new sets in Xanthopleura, and three new sets in Cymatic Habitat.

Other Changes

As usual, this update is packed with other additions, enhancements, and fixes. Here are some highlights, but you can check out the full release notes for all the details.

  • Further reduced latency on the cymbal and hi-hat trigger
  • New setting for how live-value tracking on parameters are treated
  • Level meters now show average, peak, and peak-hold levels, and refresh at 60fps
  • Go-to-source and go-to-targets navigation for assignments, with macros showing target units and dynamic names
  • New sub-layer distribute to submix options in the Mix View. This makes it easy to split up a kit into multiple submixes.
  • Collect-session-in-place, for saving a collected copy next to the saved session
  • Sessions load faster — samples are now decoded in parallel
