The acoustic drums and hand percussion of the classic Sensory Percussion V1 Sound Pack, Black Cat, have been meticulously reworked for V2. Originally recorded in 2018 at Sunhouse HQ in Long Island City, Queens, this updated pack, Black Cat Drums, offers super-detailed, multi-layered samplings of beautiful acoustic drums.
This pack is free for Sensory Percussion 2 users!
A Deeper Dive into the Sounds
Black Cat Drums features nine-zone, four-velocity level samplings (with five layers of round robins per velocity level) of a diverse array of drumset/percussion instruments:
- 3 Snare Drums
- 2 Kick Drums
- 1 Floor Tom (repitched in the sets to expand into a full bank of toms)
- 2 Hi-Hats
- 1 Ride Cymbal
- 1 Conga (plus 2 additional congas from the original pack, included in the V2 core library)
- 1 Djembe
- A Shaker and a Tambourine (not multi-sampled)
- The Black Cat Drum Machine - a small folder of synth drum one-shots that power the “ElectroCat” set
Innovative Recording Techniques
One standout feature of this pack is the innovative recording techniques used. For example, one of the snare drums and a kick drum were also recorded through a cassette player. While V1 could only accommodate these "cassette processed" samples in a separate kit, V2’s flexible layers and macros allow these samples to be seamlessly blended with the “clean” samples, offering a unique and customizable playing experience.
Explore the Fourteen Sets
The Black Cat Drums pack includes fourteen distinct sets, each designed to take full advantage of Sensory Percussion V2’s advanced features. Here’s what’s there:
1. Hyper-Detail Acoustic Mappings
These sets provide detailed acoustic mappings of the instruments, reimagined to leverage Sensory Percussion V2’s capabilities.
2. Classic V1 Kit Reworkings
Revisit the classic V1 kits with V2’s organizational improvements and features. These reworkings maintain the original pack's spirit while integrating new V2 techniques.
3. Augmented Acoustic Sets
These sets add a touch of magical realism to the acoustic drums. Ghost notes might be pitched higher, while accents are pitched lower, utilizing macros and expressive FX control to create a dynamic playing experience.
4. Sequenced Sets
Turn your drumming into a sequencing powerhouse. Every drum hit advances the sequence, allowing for expressive play that the kit responds to dynamically. It’s full drum maps that are sequenced here, not just individual samples: so you can play rimshots, cross-sticks, stick-shots, etc, and the sequence will respond accordingly!
5. Single Drum Full Kit Sets
These innovative sets squash an entire drum set into a single drum. Hitting different parts of the drum triggers different sounds, from big kicks and cracking snares to grooving hi-hats and ride cymbals. These kits are formatted so that if you play the snare, they will be played at their original pitch, but if you play Tom 1, they are pitched up, and Tom 2 they are pitched down. This way, you can actually play them on a full drum set if you want to.
There are two of this kind of kit in the pack and each includes a complimentary simple kick drum mapping so your foot has something to do, as well.
The Final Beat
Black Cat Drums offers rich and detailed drum sounds, blending the best of V1 and V2 acoustic drum replication techniques. Whether you’re a fan of the original V1 pack or new to Sensory Percussion, we think you’ll enjoy these classic kits.
